Capital Projects

Among the most visible of the improvements the Partnership has made to the 34th Street District are the streetscape projects it has initiated, designed, and constructed and which it manages and maintains on an ongoing basis.

These include new lighting, signage, street furniture, structures, plantings, and numerous other amenities whose distinctive design helps "brand" the district and whose presence is the physical reflection of the area's transformation and revitalization.

To date, the 34th Street Partnership's Capital Projects Department has carried out a program resulting in the following additions and improvements throughout the 34th Street District:

  • 300 new light poles and fixtures, replacing "cobra-head" stanchions with bright white metal halide light source
    Horticulture
  • 119 specially designed treepits
  • 550 standing planters and 156 elevated flower baskets
  • Complete landscaping of Herald Square Park and Greeley Square Park
    Signage
  • Uniform, district-specific standards, to "brand" 34th Street and reinforce its distinctive character and image
  • 200 new street-name signs, replacing existing signs and conforming to graphic standards
  • 30 new wayfinding signs
  • 321 new traffic regulatory signs and poles
  • 17 subway entrance identification signs
