34th Street: The Best of New York
Sanitation
Supplementing the city's services, the Partnership's 46-person uniformed sanitation crew works two shifts weekdays and one on weekends, throughout the district and in Herald and Greeley Squares. A special maintenance unit also removes graffiti and handbills from walls, utility poles, mailboxes, phone booths, and newsstands; cleans street signs and paints street furniture; pressure washes the pink granite corners and hard-to-clean sidewalk areas; hauls away large items discarded on the sidewalks; paints fire hydrants, mailboxes, and traffic control boxes; and keeps the Partnership's streetscape improvements in good repair. All Partnership workers document and report to the appropriate city agency any physical and quality-of-life nuisances in the district.
